BAY AREA PHYSICIANS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS (BAPHR) is a non-profit corporation of students and doctors of medicine, dentistry, podiatry and osteopathy dedicated to the elimination of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity among health providers and to the delivery of supportive, unbiased and well informed medical care to GLBT patients. BAPHR was founded in 1977.

BAPHR has been awarding grants to non-profit agencies in the nine county San Francisco Bay Area since 1986.  Grants are made to agencies that provide services which promote the HEALTH and WELLNESS of GLBT people. BAPHR seeks to fund programs or projects that focus on specific areas with a definable GLBT health and wellness outcome.

All worthy and eligible grants advancing GLBT health and wellness with a budget for a defined program or project will be considered in 2010.

BAPHR does not fund capital campaigns, laboratory research, or individual health expenses.  Recognizing the struggles faced by non-profit agencies to meet administrative costs, BAPHR will allow up to 15% of the grant total for allocation to the agency’s operational expenses: salaries, rent, utilities, insurance.  Each application will be judged on its merits including the potential to achieve the agency’s GLBT goals. Grant applications requesting from $1,000 to $10,000 will be considered. Awarded grants may be less than the requested amount.

Each grant application may not exceed two pages of 10 font narrative using this five point application format.  The application must describe the specific program or project for which BAPHR funds are sought.  A budget for the submitted program or project plus the agency’s 2010 annual budget must be submitted. The submitted grant program or project must specifically identify the usage of BAPHR funds. Other sources of funding for this application’s program or project must be identified.

Incomplete or late grant applications will not be considered. All grant applications and required attachments must be submitted by 15 November 2010.

NOTE:  The application overview section may be eliminated to provide additional grant narrative space.  BAPHR’s action on eligible submitted grants will be forwarded to applying agencies by 15 December 2008.  Awards will be made 4-6 weeks later.
